The European Union directive (2009/125//EU) for Energy-related Products (ErP) aims to reduce the environmental impact of products at the same time preserving their functionality and usability. For example in several appliances there is so-called stand-by mode that is consuming energy when the appliance is not used. Products must in the future be designed so that their energy consumption is minimized but the same functions are preserved. According to the definition of European Commission the directive is valid for products having an impact on energy consumption when used. Energy-related products are all products using energy as well as energy-saving products, e.g. windows and certain water-saving products with the help of which water can be saved and as a result of this the energy used for water heating. Based on a TDF that fulfils the requirements of ErP directive, SGS grants a EUP verification of compliance (VOC) for the product or product groups in question. Manufacturers are required to keep the declaration of conformity ready for inspection.
