The Pan-European certification mark ENEC (European Norms Electrical Certification) granted by SGS Fimko is an impartial quality mark for electrical equipment. It requires impartial tests and quality control and corresponds to national certification marks granted by the other signatory certification bodies (e.g. the German VDE mark, the Dutch KEMA mark and the British BSI mark). As an additional advantage, customers applying for the ENEC mark will receive the right to use the well-known FI mark.
In which countries is the ENEC mark recognized?
Aside from Finland, the ENEC mark is recognized in Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Norway, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. The number of countries recognizing the mark is likely to increase over the next few years.
For which products can the ENEC mark be used?
The ENEC mark introduced in 1991 can be applied e.g. to the following:
- Light fittings,
- Light fitting components,
- Lighting track systems,
- Transformers,
- Information technology equipment,
- Energy saving lamps,
- Switches for appliances
This application range will be expanded in the future to include still more product groups.
To whom can the ENEC mark be granted?
The ENEC mark can be granted to manufacturers of products for which there are harmonized European standards listed in the ENEC agreement.
Conditions for Granting the ENEC Mark
The ENEC mark requires a signed agreement and the following:
- Type testing at SGS Fimko or according to SMT, TMP or WMT procedure at the manufacturer’s laboratory.
- SGS Fimko assessment and approval of the company’s quality system based on CIG 021 factory inspection requirements. For certain products e.g. light fittings and their components, assessment and approval of the quality system in accordance with ISO 9002 is also required.
- Regular routine tests on each product group and additional periodic tests carried out by the manufacturer. Annual follow-up visits by SGS Fimko to the manufacturer's premises are conducted to ensure that the quality system is functioning and that the agreed routine and periodic tests are being carried out.
One sample from each range of products is verified every second year (valid for luminaires).
As a part of supervision of SGS Fimko certification marks, random compliance checks are carried out for certified products taken from the production line or from the market.
Use of the ENEC Mark
The ENEC mark consists of the ENEC mark and the number of the Certification Body that has granted the mark (see figure). Adjacent to the ENEC mark granted by SGS Fimko, the FI mark may also appear. The ENEC mark is affixed to the product itself. It can also be displayed in advertising material and in the User’s Manual and Installation Guide.
